Please join us this Sunday, 6/16, for a special summer bonus meeting of the Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry. Guest speaker Hemant Mehta will give a presentation followed by a potluck-style dinner.
Place: Gage Hall, 4 Archdale Street
Nearly a third of Americans under the age of 30 have no religious affiliation, the highest in any recorded generation. In this growing segment of „nones‰ are many young atheists who have faced prejudice in their high schools and communities for standing up for their constitutional right of freedom from religion. In this talk, Hemant Mehta will share stories of students who have fought for their rights, sometimes at tremendous personal cost. Mehta, the "Friendly Atheist," will also talk about how all of us can help make things better for them, regardless of our age or religious affiliation.
Hemant Mehta is a National Board Certified math teacher in the suburbs of Chicago, but he may be better known as the founder of FriendlyAtheist.com and author of I Sold My Soul on eBay and The Young Atheist's Survival Guide. Hemant has appeared on Fox News and CNN and has served in leadership positions for atheist organizations nationwide.
Instead of going to a restaurant after the meeting, we will socialize over a potluck-style dinner, so please bring a dish to share. It can be homemade or store-bought, but we will not eat until after the meeting, so please bring something that can be served at room temperature. If you'd like to bring a hot dish, please bring a crockpot or wrap it up tight to keep it warm.
We hope to see you there!
