Upcoming SHL Event:

SHL Book Group: Creating Change Through Humanism

October 22, 2017 4:00 pm

Barnes & Noble
1812 Sam Rittenberg Blvd
Charleston, SC

At our October meeting we will be reading Creating Change through Humanism by Roy Speckhardt (2015) PB 158 p. $12.81, Kindle $9.99.

The discussion will be led by Herb and here is an excerpt of his published review: "Every recent Pew survey about religion confirms rapid movement away from Christianity into either the none or the humanist/atheist camp. Speckhardt is partially responsible for this seismic shift in public opinion. For many years, Speckhardt has been living humanism and organizing humanists. I'm pleased he's now recorded that experience in a helpful book on creating change through the philosophy and lifestance he's come to know so well."

Please note that it is not a strict rule that you have read the book by the time of the club meeting. We find that those who have not read the material beforehand can contribute interesting insights to the topic and then are compelled to do further reading. Always a good thing.

RSVP requested via on Facebook or Meetup where we have a list of books we are considering for future book club meetings. At our monthly meetings we then vote on which books from this list are to be read when. And we strongly urge each of you to make suggestions for books that you feel would be appropriate for our book club. Please view our List of Potential Reads (http://lowcountryhumanists.org/SHLBookClubListofPotentialReads.pdf).
